A New Project with Russell Contracting

We recently had the chance to work with Russell Contracting on a project close to home. They brought us in to photograph the recently completed renovations at St. Louis Community College Meramec Campus in Kirkwood. It's the kind of assignment we love. A finished space, good light, and a team proud of the work they put into it.

Russell needed clean, accurate photography of the finished spaces for their own archives. When a contractor completes a project like this, having a strong visual record matters. It shows the craftsmanship, documents the scope of the work, and gives them something to point to when talking with future clients about what they can do.

What We Photographed

The Meramec campus renovation touched a lot of different areas, and we made sure to capture all of them. We spent time in the main entrances, getting wide shots that show off the updated finishes and how the spaces welcome students and staff. We moved through the cafeterias, framing the new fixtures and layouts in a way that felt inviting and true to how the space actually functions day to day.

We also covered office spaces throughout the building. These are quieter, more functional areas, but they still needed the same level of care. Good architectural photography treats every space with intention, whether it's a grand entrance or a row of desks in a renovated office suite.

The bookstore was another highlight. Retail-style spaces inside institutional buildings can be tricky to shoot well because they combine product display with architecture. We worked to balance both, showing the layout and design while still making the space feel organized and purposeful.

Why Archival Photography Matters for Contractors

For a contracting firm like Russell, photography isn't just about pretty pictures. It's documentation. Once a renovation wraps and the crews move on to the next job, these images become the permanent record of what was built. They get used internally, they get used for marketing, and they get used to show prospective clients the caliber of work Russell delivers.

That's why accuracy and consistency matter so much on a shoot like this. We're not looking to over-stylize a space or make it look like something it isn't. Our job is to represent the renovation exactly as it stands, in a way that's clean, well-lit, and professional enough to hold up in any presentation or portfolio Russell puts together down the road.

Working Within a Public Campus Environment

Shooting at a busy community college campus comes with its own set of considerations. Meramec Campus is an active facility with students, staff, and daily operations happening around us. We planned our shoot to work efficiently within that environment, moving through entrances, cafeterias, offices, and the bookstore without disrupting the normal flow of the day.

That kind of adaptability is something we bring to every commercial and architectural job. Whether it's a quiet office suite or a high-traffic public space, we know how to move through a location, capture what's needed, and stay out of the way of the people who use that space every day.
