Liz + Derrik's Italy-Themed Wedding Celebration at The Racquet Club Ladue

A Celebration Before the Elopement

Liz and Derrik did things a little differently. Instead of a traditional wedding day here in St. Louis, the two of them planned an elopement in the Dolomites of Italy. But before they left for the mountains, they wanted to celebrate with the people who matter most, and that celebration happened at The Racquet Club Ladue.

We were hired to document the party, not a ceremony. No vows, no aisle, just a room full of family and friends toasting to a marriage that would technically happen an ocean away. It made for a night that felt looser and more personal than a typical wedding day, and it gave us a completely different kind of story to tell with our cameras.

An Italy-Inspired Evening

Given the destination for their actual wedding, it only made sense that the celebration leaned into an Italy theme, and it did not disappoint. Every detail, from the florals to the table styling, carried that romantic, old-world feel without ever tipping into costume territory. It was elegant, warm, and clearly built with intention.

The Racquet Club Ladue gave the night the perfect canvas. The evening started indoors with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, giving guests a chance to mingle before the party moved outside. From there, everyone spilled onto the venue's patio for dinner and dancing under the open air. That indoor-outdoor flow gave us a great mix of light and settings to work with throughout the night, from the softer, more intimate cocktail hour to the energy of the dance floor later on.

The Team Behind the Night

A celebration like this does not come together on its own, and this one had a strong group of vendors behind it.

Final Touch Event Co. handled the planning and kept the night running smoothly. Arranged By Andy brought the floral design that tied the Italy theme together, while Styled & Staged STL handled the decor and styling that gave the space its character. The Aries Company took care of event rentals and production, and the Racquet Club Ladue provided the venue and hospitality that made the whole evening feel effortless.

On the food and sweets side, Tre Cuori Gelateria brought a dessert and gelato element that fit the Italian theme beautifully, and Celebrating Life Cake Boutique provided the specialty cakes. Fete Booth kept guests entertained with a photo booth, and Wycon Entertainment kept the dance floor full all night with their DJ services.

As the photographer on the team, our job was to move through all of it, capturing the toasts, the details, the dancing, and the small in-between moments that tend to disappear from memory if no one is there to hold onto them.

Why This Kind of Celebration Matters

Not every couple wants a traditional wedding day, and Liz and Derrik are a good example of why that is okay. Their actual wedding will happen in the Dolomites, just the two of them and whoever else made that trip. But this party in Ladue gave their St. Louis community a chance to celebrate with them in a real way, surrounded by good food, good music, and a room designed with real thought and care.

It is a reminder that a wedding celebration does not have to follow one script. Sometimes the ceremony and the party live in two completely different places, and both deserve to be documented well.
