Headshots and a Little Marketing Talk at BOCA's Smile Society Event

A Headshot Station Built for Busy Doctors

Erin, the owner of BOCA Orthodontic + Whitening Studio, brought me in for something a little different than my usual studio session. She hosts a monthly professional development gathering called Smile Society for local dentists across the St. Louis metro, and she wanted a way to give every doctor in the room a modern, polished headshot without pulling them away from the event for long.

So we set up a custom station right there. Clean background, simple lighting, quick turnaround. Each doctor stepped in, we captured a sharp, current headshot, and they were back to networking within minutes. No studio visit required, no scheduling headache. Just professional images made easy for a room full of people who don't have time to spare.

More Than Just Photos

Erin didn't just want me there for the camera. She asked me to speak to the group about something I talk about with a lot of my medical and dental clients: why modern photo and video matters as a marketing tool, not just a nice-to-have.

We talked through how outdated headshots and stock photography can quietly hurt a practice's credibility. Patients research before they book, and the first impression often comes from a website or a Google listing. A current, professional headshot signals that a practice is active, detail oriented, and takes itself seriously. The same goes for team portraits and a well shot office tour. Those images do a lot of quiet work building trust before a patient ever sits in the chair.

I shared how this plays out in my own work with medical and dental offices around the region. Headshots for providers, team portraits that show the whole practice as a unit, and office tours that let potential patients see the space before they walk in. It's the kind of photography that doesn't just look good, it functions as a tool the practice can use across their website, social media, and marketing materials for years.

Why This Kind of Event Works

What made the Smile Society headshot station effective wasn't just efficiency, it was context. These are practice owners and providers who understand the value of a strong first impression, because that's exactly what they're trying to create for their own patients every day. Getting them together in one room, camera ready, made it simple to update everyone's marketing materials at once.

It's also a good reminder that headshots don't have to mean a formal studio appointment. Bringing a photographer directly to an event, a conference, or a practice meeting can be just as effective, sometimes more so, because it removes the friction of scheduling separate sessions for a whole team or group.

For Erin and BOCA, it meant every doctor left Smile Society with an updated headshot ready to use, and a better understanding of how photography and video fit into their broader marketing strategy. That's the kind of practical value I like bringing to these kinds of professional gatherings.

Photography as Part of Your Practice's Marketing

If you run a medical or dental practice, your imagery is doing more work than you might realize. Outdated photos, mismatched styles across team members, or a complete lack of visual content on your website all send a signal, even if it's not the one you intend. Updated headshots, cohesive team portraits, and a clear look at your office space help potential patients feel comfortable before they ever call to schedule.

Whether it's a single headshot session for a new provider, a full team update, or an office tour to show off your space, this kind of photography pays off in ways that are easy to overlook until you see it done well. You can learn more about how I approach this work on my headshots page.
